Going away and leaving your pets with an experienced guardian/ boarding facility/ pet-sitter? 

 

Make sure your pets are ready. 

 

Below are some guidelines to assist your planning so that they can have the maximum fun possible.

THE ESSENTIALS

Microchip and Other Forms of IDs

 

This ensure that your pets can be identified by others and traced if they get lost and found.

Vaccination

 

This protect your pets from common contagious diseases passable due to close proximity to other pets during the staycation.

 

It should be done at least 2 weeks before you check your pet in.

Ticks/ Fleas/ Lice Prevention

 

This protect your pets from common ectoparasite infestation contractable due to close proximity to other pets during the staycation.

 

Health Check and Medication 

 

This should be done by a Veterinarian to establish and identify any special requirements specific to your pets, e.g. arthritis medication for senior pets, and ensure that the boarding facility of your choice can cater to them, e.g. feeding multiple types of medication two to three times a day.

The Footwork

SNOOBING

  • Ask for recommendation and do plenty of research about the place you wish to book for your pets' staycation.

​

PILLS AND SUCH

​

  • Provide your pets' ongoing medication, medicating instruction/schedule and the contact number of your regular vet clinic to the pet sitter/ boarding facility.

​​

  • Pack first aid medication for your pets, e.g., anti diarrhea medication, antiseptic cleanser and medicated topical cream.

Capsule
  • Visit the premise and look at the boarded animals and the environment. Even consider booking an overnighter for your pet to assess the suitability and for your pet to become familiar with the venue .

 

  • There should always be a segregation between your pet(s) and other pets to avoid passing of contagious diseases. 

​​

  • Talk to the people who owns the premise/ who works there.

​​

  • Find out if the staff can feed medication, drive your pet to the vet and know basic first aid.

​​

  • Find out if they provide individual CCTV for monitoring your pet.

​​

  • Find out what form of daily activities are provided, e.g. outdoor walks.

​​

  • Make reservation with your chosen pet sitter/ pet boarding facilities early.

PACKING

​

  • Pack your pets' personal cage/ carrier, cage cover, food, blankets, bowls and toys to reduce separation anxiety by creating a familiar setting [1].

​

  • Pack one of your unwashed t-shirt, pillow case or blanket for your pet(s), so that there is a familiar scent during their staycation [1].

​

  •  Write down your special instruction and emergency contacts for your boarding facility/ petsitter.

HOLLER

​

  • Authorize the boarding facility to contact your appointed vet clinic if your pet(s) become unwell, eg. not eating well, diarrhea, lethargic, etc.

 

  • Authorize your appointed vet clinic to assist your boarding facility or pet boarder should your pet(s) meet with any emergency or require medical assistance.

​​

  • Create a 3 way contact system.
